Sad news for the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) community as the Mid-Season Cup 2024 has seen a decrease in viewership as compared to the season of 2023. Making it the least-viewed mid-season international event ever since 2021.
According to Esports Charts, This annual event took place in Riyadh City had only a peak viewership of 2.38 million.
This year the peak viewership decreased by over 1 million as compared to last year’s MLBB South East Asia Cup 2023. The event was rebranded and changed from MLBB Southeast Asia Cup to MLBB Mid-Season Cup. Last year the MLBB Season Cup saw a peak viewership of 3.65 million and an average of 659,399 viewers. Unfortunately, this season only saw the peek viewership of 406,643 viewers this is over 250,000 less than that of last year
This season is being hosted in Riyadh and features the largest prize pool ever seen for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang at a whopping total of 3 million dollars! However, this event has faced criticism to a certain extent regarding their relations with the Saudi Arabian government and the country’s human rights record.
Selangor Red Giants (SRG) emerged as the victors in this event. They are the division of the Malaysian football team Selangor Football Club, which faced the Philippines-based organisation Falcons AP. Bren in the Grand Final, This was the most viewed match of the event. SRG also were fan favourites as they had the highest average viewership per team with 696,000.
YouTube continued to dominate in terms of streaming services with a peak viewership of over 1.2 million. Its only real competitor for this event, TikTok Live, had a peak of just over 800,000. The three other streaming services with broadcasts of this event were Bigo Live with 20,274, Twitch with 12,099 and Kick 935.
In Conclusion, the MLBB Mid Season Cup 2024 was the game's 10th-highest-viewed esports event ever. And one must ask what went wrong.
