Video streaming giant and Over-The-Top (OTT) content platform Netflix has just made a new announcement regarding a new anime series. According to the announcement, the company is working on a new DOTA: Dragon’s Blood animated series. This new animated series will be based on DOTA 2, the popular video game franchise from Vale. Netflix will release the 8-episode anime series on its platform on March 25. It also shared the first trailer of the series along with the announcement. The upcoming anime series will talk about the story of Davion, the popular Dragon Knight. It will follow the adventures and encounters of the Knight as he takes on dragons across the world. In addition to Davion, the series will also follow Princess Mirana on a secret mission and more. The show-runner and executive producer of the series, Ashley Edward Miller issued a statement as part of the announcement. Miller stated, “Fans will love how we’ve imagined the DOTA 2 universe and woven together with an epic, emotional, and adult-oriented story about some of their favorite characters”. He also thanked Valve for support during the development of the series.

It is worth noting that Miller has worked on popular titles like X-Men: First Class, Thor, and Black Sails in the past. South Korean animation studio Studio MIR has worked to animate and bring the series to reality. This DOTA 2-based series is not the first video game-based series that Netflix is currently working on. Looking back, the company has already announced other animated series based on the Tomb Raider franchise. Netflix noted that Lara Croft will make its debut in the anime world with the new series. Tashao Huo will write and serve as the executive producer for the series.

Netflix is also working on Sonic Prime, a new animated series based on Sonic the Hedgehog. The platform plans to premiere the 24-episode series in 2022. Netflix has teamed up with SEGA America and WildBrain to work on Sonic Prime. The company is also working on a Skull Island-based animated series. These announcements come months after Netflix announced a partnership with Ubisoft to develop content around Assassin's Creed.
