Currently, the status of all three trademark applications in “Opposed”. The report clarified that this happens when “a third-party” thinks that a published or applied trademark is “non-distinctive”. Sony also issued a “no comments” statement in response to the original report. It is unclear if the company is waiting for the resolution of the trademark dispute. It is also possible that the company may launch the product under a different branding as Asus did with the “Zenfone” branding.

The report went ahead to note that the issue at hand is likely to cause major problems for Sony. Sony is likely to find it quite easy to resolve the issue around its PS5 trademark dispute. However, this is still delaying the launch of the next generation gaming console in the Indian market. The multi-national giant should have covered its bases as it has done in other countries.
