The Witcher remake announced by CD Projekt Red, will be "rebuilt from the ground up" on Unreal Engine 5
The Witcher Remake is the “Canis Majoris” project which was announced earlier this month.
The Witcher has been picked for a remake by CD Projekt Red, as announced by the company on Wednesday. CD Projekt Red also said that The Witcher remake will be built on Unreal Engine 5. The Witcher remake is in early development and is being developed by Fool’s Theory. Earlier this month, CD Projekt Red revealed several Witcher games are in development, The Witcher remake was announced with the codename “Canis Majoris” back then.
The Witcher Remake
Now we know what the “Canis Majoris” project is about. The Witcher Remake will be “rebuilt from the ground up”, announced CD Projekt Red and it sounds awfully similar to Naughty Dog’s description of The Last of Us Part I remake.
The studio said, “It’s still early and we want to ensure that the game is created with the utmost care and attention to detail”. Fair enough since The Witcher is the first game in the famous franchise and also the first-ever game from CD Projekt Red.
CD Projekt Red also asked for patience from fans as “it will be a while until we start talking about this project in detail.”

Adam Badowski, Head of Studio at CD Projekt Red said, “The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD PROJEKT RED. It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger”.
Badowski mentioned that the team at Fool’s Theory has some people who were part of The Witcher games and “know the source material well”. He added that they “know how much gamers have been looking forward to seeing the remake happen, and they know how to make incredible and ambitious games. And although it will take some time before we’re ready to share more about and from the game, I know it’ll be worth the wait.”
The Witcher 3 next-gen update
It looks like it’ll be a while indeed before we find out more about this remake but what we do know is that The Witcher 3 next-gen upgrade is almost here. It was announced to arrive this year after The Witcher 3 upgrade was indefinitely delayed earlier this year.
