Unreal Engine 5: Game developer to create a game on Superman-like character after a demo

The developer confirmed he will make a game but it sadly won't be about Superman. Watch the clips and read more about the upcoming game below.

Epic released Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) and made it available for game developers a week ago. Volod, a game developer, took to Twitter to show his work on UE5 which features the city used in The Matrix Awakens demo that was used to showcase UE5’s capabilities.

Volod posted a series of tweets that showed the 3D model of a person who possesses the ability to fly and has super strength and telekinesis ability. His first tweet showed the City Sample which is a free downloadable project for UE5. He posted an 11-second clip that was a flight demo. People soon began to notice as the clip went viral and earned tens of thousands of likes on Twitter.

He posted another clip a day later that made use of the gaming engine’s chaos physics system as he showed the super strength of the character by smash-landing (eerily similar to Iron Man) on a car.

Unreal Engine 5 demo to turn into a full-fledged game; details

Days later on April 11, Volod posted that his tech demo will turn into an actual game now. He made sure to mention that it will not be a Superman game. He also mentioned that he was looking for concept artists, musicians, or UE4 environment artists who want to work on the project.

Volod told Kotaku as well that he will put together “a minimum viable product or demo” and release it to the public. Volod said that it would depend on whether he can “find an interesting gameplay loop that ties into the flight mechanic.” He also revealed that he has a special developers’ license from Epic Games. It allowed him to experiment with UE5 for a year before it was released in April. Volod has a background in visual effects design for films.

Volod clearly mentioned it will not be a Superman game after all. However, the clips showed the potential of the latest gaming engine by Epic Games. It was particularly impressive given that the tech demo was created by a single individual. It remains to be seen where this game would be headed.
