Romantic Killer live-action film arrives December 2025, featuring Moka Kamishiraishi as Anzu and theme songs by top Japanese idol groups
There’s a new rom-com movie coming, and fans of Romantic Killer will probably be excited. A live-action version of Wataru Momose’s manga is now confirmed. It will come out in Japan on December 12, 2025. The official website and social media opened today. Along with that, they shared a teaser trailer and a visual.
Romantic Killer Manga: Main Cast and Idol Boys Revealed
Moka Kamishiraishi, who played Eiko in the Ya Boy Kongming! live-action, will now play the main role of Anzu Hoshino. She’s a high school girl who doesn’t care at all about romance. But suddenly, life throws her into some very confusing love situations.
That’s not all. The movie also stars three idol group members from Japan who play the boys Anzu is pushed toward romantically. Kyohei Takahashi from Naniwa Danshi will play the role of Tsukasa Kazuki. Masaya Kimura from INI takes the role of Junta Hayami. And Sota Nakajima of FANTASTICS plays Hijiri Koganei. On top of that, each group will be making original theme songs for the film. So, fans can enjoy music from all three.
Director Returns With His Style Again
Tsutomu Hanabusa is directing the film. You might recognize his name from other live-action anime projects like Kakegurui, Tokyo Revengers, and No Longer Heroine. He’s good at mixing funny moments with dramatic ones, and it looks like he’s bringing the same energy here.
The Romantic Killer manga was published on Shonen Jump+ from 2019 to 2020, then finished in four volumes. Later in 2022, Netflix made a 12-episode anime out of it, which got people talking online. The manga also won the Jump Vertical Scroll Manga Award, which is kind of a big deal.

Author Wataru Momose talked about the movie and said the script was even more chaotic than his original manga. He joked that he’ll wait for the premiere by eating chocolate (probably Anzu’s) and playing games while petting a cat. Sounds about right for a story like this.
With big-name idols, a chaotic love plot, and a mix of romance and comedy, the Romantic Killer live-action film is lining up to be something fun. If you liked the anime or manga, this might be worth watching when it comes out in December 2025.
