Sci-Fi Anime Film AS ONE Sets August 2025 Release with Teaser Reveal

The latest sci-fi anime film AS ONE has its official Japanese release date as August 22, 2025. It accompanied an all-new teaser trailer revealing a first look at the explosive action and vivid visuals of the tale and extensive worldbuilding. The film acts as a prequel to Square Enix's 2018 arcade title Starwing Paradox, being nineteen years prior to the events in the game.

Creative Team and Concept Origins

AS ONE is directed by director Kobun Shizuno, who previously worked on the Detective Conan film series. Character design is taken care of by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, who has worked on Neon Genesis Evangelion and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time previously. Ippei Gyoubu, who has long worked as a designer of many Gundam series like Iron-Blooded Orphans and Witch from Mercury, is brought in to design the machinery side of the film.Interestingly, he was also involved in the design on the initial Starwing Paradox game. 

The movie builds on the universe of the original game with an original script based on a concept created by Shizuno and his writers. While AS ONE takes major design elements from the arcade title, every character is freshly designed for the film with Sadamoto in charge of their creation. 

Storyline Blends Earth and Space in Parallel Journeys

The story follows Yoh, a high school student living on Earth who is dealing with the stress of family pressure and uncertainty about his musical career. His existence takes a radical turn when he hears a bizarre call for help and is consumed by an unknown white light while passing through Shibuya.

At the same time, in a faraway galaxy of Meguriboshi, a temporary truce in politics among the competing groups is shattered by crashing space trash. Rako, an adolescent engineer, gives up her life on a crashed aircraft to rescue her co-worker Vigo. After suffering a nearly fatal accident, she becomes unconscious—only to encounter Yoh in a dream-like world within her mind.

With its blend of interstellar warfare, inner turmoil, and high-drama mecha combat, AS ONE is well-positioned to provide fans of the genre with a rich cinematic experience grounded in both human drama and science fiction spectacle.
