  • May 21, 2025 (UPDATED: May 21, 2025 12:30 IST)

The animated feature A New Dawn by Yoshitoshi Shinomiya has been delayed to 2026. The film, a Japan-France co-production, explores identity and memory through stunning visuals and emotional storytelling.

The release of A New Dawn, a new animated feature from director and writer Yoshitoshi Shinomiya, has been officially shifted to 2026. The news was made official through the film's official X (formerly Twitter) handle. Previously planned for release in 2025, no particular reason behind the delay has been shared.

A refreshed trailer consistent with the new year of release is currently available on distributor Asmik Ace's YouTube channel. The movie, a co-production between Japanese filmmakers and France's Miyu Productions, is scheduled to hit Japan's screens.

A Visually Driven Story with Global Recognition

A New Dawn is an original title that was developed and directed by Shinomiya, a well-known visual artist who has made significant back-end contributions to such titles as Your Name, Garden of Words, and various Pokémon movies. The character design is done by Utsushita of Minakata Laboratory. The art direction is led by Akiko Majima and the music by Shuta Hasunuma.

The cinematic and artistic scope of the film has already made it noticed on the international scene. It was one among five international works chosen to be screened at the Annecy Animation Showcase, as part of the 77th Cannes International Film Festival in May 2024.

A Story of Identity Amid Crisis

The movie revolves around Keitaro, a young man who spent six years in solitude in his family's closed-down fireworks factory. He keeps on designing fireworks with the hope of regaining memories of his father, who went missing many years ago. The factory is under threat of confiscation. The movie tracks Keitaro and two others as they battle natural disasters, deteriorating environmental conditions, and personal challenges. They look for identity and meaning in a world on the brink of collapse.

With the delay now confirmed, viewers will have to wait longer for the launch of what will surely be a visually rich and emotionally layered film.
