Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games has just shared some new information regarding its flagship video games. According to the information, the game publisher has managed to sell more than 140 million copies of GTA 5. In addition, the company also shared some numbers around GTA Online and Red Dead Online during its latest earnings call. For some context, the game first launched back in 2013 and is currently available across multiple generations of game consoles and platforms. GTA 5 sells more than 140 million copies, details
The highlight of the latest earnings call is likely Grand Theft Auto V or GTA 5 as it has been for the past couple of years. Take-Two Interactive noted that the game has sold more than 140 million copies, a number only set to grow. The company is planning to release the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and Series S later in the year. It is worth noting that 2020 was the best year for GTA V since its launch year. Take-Two noted that it sold “more copies of Grand Theft Auto V” in 2020 than any other year since 2013.
It is worth noting that this success was not limited to GTA 5 as Take-Two observed increased revenue through GTA Online as well as Red Dead Online. GTA Online is the multiplayer version of the game that gets regular content updates. As previously reported, the company rolled out the latest Cayo Perico Heist update for GTA Online back in December. Similar to the GTA V sale numbers, GTA Online saw more players in every month of 2020 than any other since launch.
Red Dead Online achieved a similar feat attracting more players each month in 2020 since its launch. Both GTA Online as well as Red Dead Online set new player records last year. Take-Two noted that Red Dead Redemption 2 managed to sell 36 million copies since launch.
