Nintendo Switch: Next gen upgrade may feature new Nvidia chips with DLSS support

New information about the rumored next-gen Nintendo Switch has just surfaced online. As part of the new report, it looks like Nintendo is planning to use a newer Nvidia SoC. This SoC will likely offer the upcoming model better processing and graphics capabilities to the rumored console. Details around the unannounced console also stated that players will get support for the AI-powered Nvidia Deep Learning Super Sampling technology (DLSS). This comes just weeks after a report shared key specifications of the next-generation Switch. The native DLSS support for the games is expected to help next-gen Switch to render games at a higher resolution. It also means that the hand-held console may be able to stream games at 4K resolution when connected to external displays like a TV. Though the information about 4K output is not new, DLSS sure will make things easier for Nintendo to deliver on this promise. For some context, the current version of Switch can stream the games at 1080p on external displays. DLSS also means that Nintendo game developers may start adding native DLSS support to games out of the box. It may also bring more titles to Nintendo from an increasing set of developers.

According to a report from Bloomberg, Nintendo will also likely increase the RAM on the console for more bandwidth. Sources behind the information noted that the company is yet to publish these announcements to the general public. Looking at past reports, the console is expected to feature a 7-inch OLED panel with 720p resolution. The company has teamed up with Samsung for mass production of these panels from “as early as June”.This report reiterated that the company is planning to launch this version of Switch by the end of the year.

It is likely that the company may launch this new version at a higher price than the current $299. Analysts have anticipated that the new price of the console may be up by “as much as $100”. Nintendo has the choice to sell the device at $349 or even $399. This price difference won’t affect the sales of the hand-held console by much.
