Speed Freeks leaves Early Access on May 22 as a paid title, adding new maps, offline play, and more—free for existing players, no more microtransactions.
Speed Freeks has been free-to-play in Early Access, but come May 22 it won’t be anymore. Instead, you’ll need to buy the game for $15.99 USD (or €15.99/£12.79) on Steam. This change ends the microtransaction-funded model that PLAION ran, and shifts to an upfront purchase approach. The idea is to give everyone the full experience right away, without an in-game shop nagging at you .
Early Access Rewards and Progression
If you already played during Early Access, don’t worry—you automatically keep access to Speed Freeks in your library. Your progress, including all those “Teef” you earned, carries over to the 1.0 build. The update also adds offline play, new maps, extra cosmetics, and a fresh vehicle (the Trukk) as part of the free upgrade. Even though microtransactions close to new buyers, anyone with leftover Teef can still spend it for a year after launch .
New Publisher & Future Content
Publishing duties move from PLAION to Wired Productions, reuniting developer Caged Element with the partner they worked with on GRIP: Combat Racing. Wired says they’ll ditch microtransactions in favor of paid DLC packs down the road, so content support keeps rolling without splitting the community.
Launch Timing & Availability
Servers will be down from May 20 until launch day on the 22nd to roll out the update. When they’re back up, the full 1.0 version goes live at the special launch price on Steam. Expect bug fixes, balance tweaks, and all those new features ready to try once downtime ends .
With its shift to a paid model and a suite of new launch features, Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks is set to rev up Ork vehicular mayhem in its next chapter on May 22.
