Dandadan Evil Eye Makes Big Start, Goes Over Solo Leveling in Box Office
Dandadan: Evil Eye beats Solo Leveling at U.S. box office with $3.55M debut.

Dandadan: Evil Eye movie began its release at the theater on June 6, 2025, but for only a while. It's not an entirely new movie, though, as it takes the first three episodes of season 2 before that particular one was launched in July. Nevertheless, fans appeared in large numbers, and it earned $3.55 million at the U.S. box office alone for the first weekend. That was even higher than Solo Leveling: ReAwakening, which earned $3.35 million.
As told by Box Office Mojo, this number puts Evil Eye higher than other anime titles like Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom, which made just $1.65 million, and Blue Lock: Episode Nagi, with $1.85 million. Only a few anime films stay ahead of it, like Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! with $3.66 million and My Hero Academia: You’re Next with $5.04 million. But still, for a movie just showing early episodes, it was a big surprise.
It is uncommon that anime such as Dandadan, with its odd combination of ghost stuff and comedy, and action, can get so many people into the movie theaters. And yet, fans went to see it even when they already knew episodes would be on streaming later, after some time. That indicates anime event movies can produce a strong outcome, not just in Japan but internationally as well.
Evil Eye Hints More to Come in Season 2
Why all this attention? A lot because of season 1's performance prior. People already have faith in the story, and they believe season 2 can improve even more. The Evil Eye film was created to make that sentiment even stronger. It didn't reveal the entire story, it left in the middle, but it provided thrilling scenes and a great battle that makes viewers crave more.
After the film, the heroes are alive, but the actual problem, the Evil Eye spirit, still lingers. Therefore, it does not answer the peril; it simply starts. That implies more story must be introduced once the new season arrives in July. Viewers already wait to find out what is next.
The success also benefits other anime movie opportunities. With Dandadan performing so well, more major titles like Demon Slayer are likely to similarly perform big numbers in summer as well. Anime movies are not required to be lengthy or full; a short story could also perform well if it is crafted with love.
