Aniplex of America and Crunchyroll unveiled that the 4K re-release of Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Mugen Train is coming to Indian theaters on June 13. Fans can see the film along with gaining exclusive first access to the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle film trilogy.
Record-Breaking Success and Expanding Franchise
Originally released in Japan in October 2020, Mugen Train opened in India in August 2021. The film dominated Japan's box office for 12 consecutive weeks and was the first film to ever gross over 40 billion yen domestically. It also went on to gross the most worldwide in 2020, making history as the first film not from a Hollywood studio to top worldwide grosses in over 100 years.
Following the film, a seven-episode anime arc adapting Mugen Train premiered in October 2021. The franchise continued with the Entertainment District Arc TV anime starting December 2021, available on Crunchyroll with Hindi, Indian English, and Tamil dubs.
The Swordsmith Village Arc began airing in April 2023, streaming on Crunchyroll and Netflix, with Hindi and Telugu dubs added later. The latest installment, Hashira Training Arc, aired from May to June 2024 and was also streamed on Crunchyroll.
Upcoming Infinity Castle Film and Global Reach
The first film of the Infinity Castle trilogy will premiere in Japan on July 18, with a record 443 screens, including IMAX venues. It will debut in Indian theaters on September 12 through Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Aniplex intends to release this film in 150+ territories, further expanding the franchise's previous international reach.
This growing proliferation locks in Demon Slayer as an international sensation, providing quality animation and experience to fans, which includes endless distribution channels.
