Frieren Season 2 Premieres January 2026: Plot, Release, and What to Expect
A new teaser confirms Frieren Season 2 for January 2026, with MADHOUSE returning and fresh direction by Tomoya Kitagawa on Crunchyroll

At Anime Expo 2025, the team behind "Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End" finally gave fans a little something of a teaser for Season 2. It was short, but had some new scenes and that same quiet, thoughtful feeling and only maybe a bit more serious this time around. They said Season 2 will begin airing in January 2026, and Crunchyroll’s going to stream it again, just like before.
New Faces, Familiar Names in the Staff
The new director is Tomoya Kitagawa. He’s not totally new though, he worked on storyboards and directed some episodes in Season 1. Keiichiro Saito, who was in charge last season, is still there too but now just as a supervising director. Also, Daiki Harashina is joining as the assistant director.

Animation’s still being handled by MADHOUSE. But now, instead of one person, three people are doing character designs: Takasemaru, Keisuke Kojima, and Yuri Fujinaka. Seiko Yoshioka’s still doing concept art, so the visual vibe should stay pretty close. And Evan Call is back for music again, which probably is good ‘cause his work before was really beautiful.
From Memories to New Adventures
This anime’s based on a manga by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe. It started back in 2020 in Weekly Shonen Sunday. The story is about Frieren, an elf mage who used to be part of a group that defeated the Demon King. But that’s not where it ends—after winning, her human friends start to die, and Frieren realizes she never really understood them.
So she goes on another journey, with a new apprentice, hoping to understand people better this time. It’s slow sometimes, quiet too, but that’s what makes it hit hard.

Season 1 aired in late 2024 and had 28 episodes. It did really well, even won awards like Best Adaptation and Best World Building. Also, a mini-episode’s coming soon featuring Denken, Richter, and Lawine. With old and new talent both working together, Season 2 might just be another emotional hit.
