Fans of The Apothecary Diaries can looking forward to a fresh chapter as Season 2 continues to build on its intricate palace drama. Episode 19, titled “Festival,” is set to premier on May 23, 2025, streaming globally on Crunchyroll at 10:15 AM PT / 12:15 PM ET. The episode will also be available with English subtitles on Netflix in Asia.
The series first come back earlier this year, premiering on January 10 on Nippon TV in Japan. It follows the smart herbalist Maomao as she finds hidden secrets in a palace full of politics, tradition, and power fights. This season show events from the third volume of the light novel and brings new storylines with lots of suspense and surprises.
Introducing the Shisui Arc
A new visual tease the Shisui arc, a storyline where a mysterious character, Shisui, is revealed to be Loulan, a disguised consort with a hidden identity. Her presence brings fresh intrigue as she navigates the complex royal court while keeping her background secret.
In Episode 19, Maomao finds herself in a remote village after being taken from the inner palace. As the village celebrates a lively festival, she and Shisui joins in by wearing fox masks. During their walk to the shrine, Shisui shares local legends, but Maomao senses something is wrong. Her unease grows as she observes strange behavior from those around her. Eventually, she comes face-to-face with Suirei, adding even more tension to her already dangerous situation.
The anime is based on a best-selling light novel series by Natsu Hyūga, with illustrations by Touko Shino. In 2021, the novels ranked third in Japan’s light novel sales, showing the series strong popularity. It has since expanded with two manga versions and gained international recognition through its animated adaptation by TOHO Animation Studio and OML.
