Dune Awakening Faces Lag After Server Restart; All You Need to Know

Dune Awakening servers are back after June 8 maintenance, but lag, bugs, and connection issues still frustrate players across platforms.

Funcom’s new survival MMO Dune Awakening, based on the iconic Dune universe, underwent scheduled maintenance on June 8. Though the servers are now live again, players aren’t exactly celebrating. The desert’s still harsh, not just in-game, but on the technical side too.

Maintenance Was Done, But That’s Not All

So yeah, on June 8, early in the morning across different time zones, the servers went into maintenance. Times were:

  • 1:00 AM PDT

  • 4:00 AM EDT

  • 9:00 AM BST

  • 10:00 AM CEST

The studio, Funcom, said it would take at least two hours. Servers did come back right on that estimate. But many would argue, what came back wasn’t fully ready.

Technical Issues Still Hanging Around

After maintenance, players hopped back in—but not smoothly. Quite a number of them ran into patch errors, especially folks on Steam. Funcom advised restarting the game or using the “Change Region” feature from the main menu for region mismatch issues.

Even with these tips, things aren’t stable. Players are saying they’re getting:

  • Game lag and stuttering

  • Frame rate dips (even with good hardware)

  • Random disconnections and connection drops

It’s making gameplay frustrating, especially for people who’ve been following the project since early development.

Frustrated Fans and Forums on Fire

Another thing that hit a nerve: the timing. Doing this on a weekend morning, when players in the US and Europe were hoping for long gaming sessions, didn’t help. Now, community threads are loaded with not just bug reports but concerns about how early access is being handled.

There’s understanding that early access comes with problems, but the scale of issues right now is pushing players’ limits.

Fixes Are Coming… Hopefully Soon

Funcom has acknowledged the problems and said more patches will be coming daily this week. These will also likely drop in early-morning hours and will focus on stability and bug fixes.

For now, Arrakis is still open, but not running all that well. The game shows big potential, but there’s a long desert road ahead before Dune Awakening becomes the experience fans are truly hoping for.
