AMD Ryzen 5000 series mobile chips announced, details
Dr. Lisa Su, the President, and CEO of AMD took to the virtual stage to share the latest announcements. As noted above, the highlight of the announcement is likely the arrival of AMD Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors. Like its predecessor, this new mobile chip series will also feature U, H, and HS series lineups. In fact, the company also unveiled its new HX series of chips aimed at top-of-the-line performance. The HX lineup of processors will come with overclocking support, and a higher TDP for better framerates.
AMD claims that the new chips will bring significant performance improvements with the 7nm Zen 4 cores. One can also expect “Ultrathin laptops” with up to 8 cores and “leading battery life” in notebooks. AMD claimed “up to 17.5 hours” of general use, and “up to 21 hours movie playback” on the Ryzen 7 5800U-powered notebooks. It also showcased comparison benchmarks comparing the Ryzen 5000 mobile chips with 11th gen Intel Core processors. We saw AMD leading the performance charts by up to 44 percent.
Talking about the HX lineup, AMD also shared specifications for its AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX, and Ryzen 9 5980HX. Both the processors will feature 8 cores with 16 threads, 20MB L2 and L3 cache, and 45W TDP. The 5900HX will offer a boost clock of up to 4.6GHz while the 5980HX will come with a boost clock of up to 4.8GHz. AMD claims that the 5900HX can go head-to-head with the Intel Core i9-10980HK.
