Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 DLC likely to release in 2023, as Activision confirms "next full premium release"
Reports suggest it won't be the new Call of Duty game by Treyarch studio but a paid DLC for Modern Warfare 2.
Activision has just confirmed there will be “full premium release” in the Call of Duty franchise in 2023. Earlier reports had suggested that the company was skipping next year when it comes to Call of Duty releases, which would have marked 2023 as the only year in nearly the last 20 years when there wasn’t a new Call of Duty title hitting the market.

This piece of info was discovered in Activision Blizzard’s third-quarter financial results which were released on Monday. However, there’s a new report coming in as Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier claimed on Twitter that this “full premium release” won’t be a new Call of Duty game. Instead, it will be a major expansion to the recently-released Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. This 'premium' DLC looks to be a paid expansion, likely to be packed with campaign and multiplayer content.

“Activision is looking forward to building on its current momentum in 2023, with plans for next year including the most robust Call of Duty live operations to date, the next full premium release in the blockbuster annual series, and even more engaging free-to-play experiences across platforms,” said the Q3 financial results report.
Black Ops 5
Bloomberg had earlier reported that there won’t be a new Call of Duty game in 2023 as Black Ops studio Treyarch continues their development of a new Call of Duty game and it’ll reportedly arrive in 2024.
There’s been no confirmation about Treyarch developing Black Ops 5 but leaked images seem to suggest that the game very much exists and is in development. Apart from that, there are also rumours about a standalone Call of Duty Zombies game planned for release but once again, there is no official word about it so far.
Reports also suggest that a premium content release for Modern Warfare 2 next year is in the works. It’s likely to contain several multiplayer maps from classic Call of Duty games so as to celebrate Call of Duty’s 20th anniversary.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is the fast-selling game in franchise history
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has enjoyed tremendous success so far, ever since its release on October 28. Activision claimed on Monday that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is the fast-selling game in the franchise till date.
Modern Warfare 2 has generated over $800 million in sales within three days of release. It has also crossed the $1 billion mark in just 10 days. Hence, it surpassed the record held by Black Ops 2 which was released in 2012. Black Ops 2 reached $1 billion in sales after 15 days.
