Cyberpunk 2077 will get an expansion in 2023; CD Projekt Red shares sales numbers for The Witcher series

CD Projekt Red has confirmed an expansion release period for Cyberpunk 2077. The company posted its future development plans on Thursday. The expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 will be released in 2023. However, the studio did not reveal further details about the expansion. The studio also mentioned that Cyberpunk 2077 will continue to receive further support which shows the intention of CD Projekt Red to keep its title alive beyond 2023. CD Projekt Red says more details will be revealed later this year.

Latest announcements about Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher

The new Witcher game was also outlined in the plans. The game will be created using the latest Unreal Engine 5 by Epic Games. The announcement was made recently when the developer signed a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games.

The studio once again confirmed that the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen update has been delayed indefinitely. The studio is still in the “development work” stage for the game and mentioned no time period for its release. The Molasses Flood, one of the game developers under CD Projekt Red, is also working on a new game based on either ‘The Flame in the floods’ or ‘Drake Hollow’. 

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game would also see a spin-off arriving in the future. Gwent: The Witcher Card Game was released back in 2018 which is a free-to-play digital collectible card game. The studio will also continue to extend its support for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. CD Projekt Red launched The Witcher: Monster Slayer last year. It is an augmented reality role-playing video game by Spokko. The studio said it would keep up the support for the AR game.

CD Projekt Red releases sales count for Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red also announced the sales stats for Cyberpunk 2077. The game has sold more than 18 million copies worldwide as of April 14. The game received heavy backlash during its release. Such was the reception that the studio and various distributors stores including Microsoft, Amazon, and Sony offered refunds to those who purchased the game.

Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, another CD Projekt title, had a rather successful span. The whole Witcher franchise has sold more than 65 million copies so far. Out of this number, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt accounted for more than 40 million copies.
