CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has just shared new statistics around its latest AAA video game title, Cyberpunk 2077. According to the latest report, CDPR managed to sell about 13.7 million copies of the game in 2020. For some context, this means that the company sold 13.7 million copies in just 21 days. However, one should also note that CDPR sold about 8 million copies as pre-orders before the December 10, 2020 launch. Besides, we have already reported that the company crossed the 13 million mark in the first 10 days of the release. Let’s check more details around the Cyberpunk 2077 sales information as part of the CDPR earnings report here.

Cyberpunk 2077 2020 sales figures out; details

The Polish game developer and publisher stated that the 13.7 million figure made Cyberpunk 2077 one of the most successful launches in the RPG segment. It is also interesting to note that these sales figures also consider the refunds due to poor performance. According to the post-earnings call, the company issued refunds for about 30,000 copies. This means that the company refunded about $2.23 million as part of its “Help Me Refund” program. However, CDPR did note that the 30,000 figure accounts for the people who directly emailed the company for a refund. So, the total number of refunds will likely be higher from Microsoft, Sony, and other offline outlets.

Looking at the 13.7 million number, CDPR re-iterated that it has already accounted for the refunds. This means that the company managed about 5.7 million copies after the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. In addition to these surface-level numbers, CDPR also shared a detailed breakdown on different platforms. For instance, the company managed about 56 percent or about 7.67 million copies on the PC. 28 percent or about 3.84 million copies went to PS4 and 17 percent (2.33 million) on Xbox One.

It is also interesting to note that 73 percent (10 million) of the 13.7 million copies accounted for digital sales. CDPR also stated that the total budget of Cyberpunk 2077 was about $315 million. A lot has happened since the December 10 launch including performance issues on older generation consoles, multiple patches, and updates, and more. The game publisher and developer has also outlined major changes in the way it will develop future games including rethinking the multiplayer mode of the game.
