Epic Games has just shared several announcements for its popular Battle Royale video game, Fortnite. First up, the company just announced a new time-limited game mode called “The Spy Within”. This new game mode is similar to the popular multiplayer game Among Us where players have to figure out spies. In addition, the game publisher and developer also introduced a new performance mode in the game. This performance mode improves Fortnite on older, lower-end computers. Epic Games has also rolled out improvements for players on Microsoft Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Let’s check everything regarding the Fortnite “The Spy Within” mode, the new performance mode, and console improvements here.

Fortnite ‘The Spy Within’ mode announced, details

The new Fortnite game mode allows players to play in a group of 10 at a time. “The Spy Within” mode will automatically choose two players as the spies at the start of the match. Here, the spies have to kill the rest of the eight players without invoking suspicion. On the other hand, the rest of the players need to identify the spies while completing different objectives. The rest of the players can only talk to each other through voice chat when they call a meeting. Players will be able to earn in-game items including a skate deck after completing the Spy Within challenge pack.

Epic also outlined that this mode is better with video chat so players can use the Fortnite Mode on Houseparty to enhance the experience. Looking at these details, this mode is strikingly identical to Among Us. It is worth noting that this mode will only be present for a limited amount of time. Epic Games is likely trying to bring back players to the game with this mode. In fact, the company recently announced a similar “Reboot a Friend” event where it is asking players to bring back their friends to the game.

New performance mode and console improvements

As mentioned above, Epic Games also rolled out a new update for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 players. This new update allows the game to run at 120fps on both consoles. In fact, the game also supports 1200p resolution on Xbox Series S after the update. However, 120fps support is only available in the standard and creative modes. It does not work in Party Royale, Battle Lab, Save the World, or any other time-limited modes. Interested players can enable this in settings by turning on the “120 FPS Mode” toggle.

Moving to the performance mode, it does what we mentioned above. The mode strips down almost all complex and system taxing graphic elements and effects from the game to offer more performance. This results in better performance on older systems. Epic Games did mention that this will work better on systems with an SSD or 6GB RAM. In addition, it also outlined the FPS that players would get with this new mode. Interested players can find this setting in the game settings menu. In addition, Epic Games is also asking players to opt-out of high-resolution texture to maximize the performance gains.
