Gachiakuta Anime Premieres in July, With New Trailer and Global Events Announced

Gachiakuta anime drops July 6 with trailer, music, and global early screenings.

The anime adaptation of Gachiakuta is set to start airing on July 6, and along with that, a new main trailer and key visual have been released. The update also mentioned a few additional features, including new character voices, opening and ending music, and special screenings before the show officially begins.

Gachiakuta Trailer Shows Off Music, Cast Updates Too

In the latest trailer, it got confirmed that Paledusk is doing the opening song, which is called “HUGs.” Then DUSTCELL is doing the ending song, it’s named “TOMOSHIBI.” Also, two more characters have been added in the anime — Regto, who is voiced by Toshiyuki Morikawa, and Yuuki Shin is voicing someone called Jabber.

The animation is being done at Bones Film Studio. Fumihiko Suganuma is the director, who previously worked on DRAGON QUEST: The Adventure of Dai episodes. Hiroshi Seko is writing the series script, and character designs are by Satoshi Ishino, who’s also chief animation director. Music is composed by Taku Iwasaki, he has done music before for shows like Gurren Lagann.

Gachiakuta Screenings Around the World Happen Before the Launch

There’s gonna be early screenings of Gachiakuta in many countries before it starts broadcasting. The creators also going to appear in some events, like Anime Expo. Here's when and where:

  • Tokyo, Japan – July 4 at 6:30 p.m., Shinjuku Piccadilly Cinema
  • Los Angeles, USA – July 4 at 10:00 a.m., Anime Expo (with creators Kei Urana and Hideyoshi Andou, and producer Naoki Amano)
  • Paris, France – July 4 at 11:45 a.m., Japan Expo
  • Rome, Italy – July 4 at 6:30 p.m., The Space Moderno
  • Berlin, Germany – July 5 at 6:00 p.m., Astor Film Lounge
  • Mumbai, India – July 4 (time not mentioned), PVR Icon
  • São Paulo, Brazil – Anime Friends (exact time not confirmed yet)

Also, there’s a behind-the-scenes video released too. It’s called Behind Gachiakuta, and in that, the creators talk about how they made the story and the graffiti designs. A special graffiti website was also launched, where fans can do interactive graffiti stuff inspired from the anime’s style.

Gachiakuta Manga Background and Story Premise

Gachiakuta is a manga created by Kei Urana, and graffiti artist Hideyoshi Andou also worked on the art. The manga has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine since February 2022, and so far 14 volumes are out. Kodansha USA is handling the English release of the manga.

The story is about Rudo, a boy who lives in the lower part of a floating town. The rich people above just throw their garbage down, and he lives among it. One day, he’s blamed for a murder he didn’t do, and gets thrown off the edge into the trash wasteland. Down there, he finds creatures and danger, and ends up joining a group called the Cleaners. To survive and fight, he must learn how to use some new power.

The anime will be streaming on Crunchyroll at the same time it airs in Japan.
