My Hero Academia: Characters With Powerful Quirks but Weak Execution

Explore how My Hero Academia characters either fail or succeed in using their quirks, showing that power alone isn't enough to become a true hero

In My Hero Academia world, quirks are a big deal. Everyone got one, and they were all different. They makes the whole system of heroes and villains go around. But having a strong power don’t mean you’re a great hero. Sometimes the person using the quirk not really knowing how to use it well, and that makes it feel wasted. Then there’s people who got tricky quirks but still do amazing cause they worked hard and learned how to use it properly.

Strong Quirks, But Not Strong Enough Users

Let’s look first at some of the characters who were given strong quirks, but they just couldn’t fully use them well.

Mustard – Gas

Mustard, who’s a bad guy and with League of Villains, got a quirk called Gas. He make a lot of gas come out that puts people to sleep. He can even control which way it goes, so it’s dangerous. But the problem is, he ain’t strong himself. He’s not good at fighting and too confident for what he can really do. He also didn’t think much in battle, which made his strong quirk feel kind of wasted.

Denki Kaminari – Electrification

Denki, or "Chargebolt" like they call him, got this big electric quirk that can shock people all around him. It can paralyze enemies, and even knock many out together. It’s very strong if used right. But Denki, he didn’t train much in the start. He’s also not really smart in battle and gets confused easily. He was mostly a funny guy in the story, so his quirk didn’t get to shine like it could’ve.

Yuga Aoyama – Navel Laser

Aoyama got a quirk that lets him shoot lasers from his belly. It goes far and can cut through stuff. But his body don’t really handle it well. If he uses it too long, he gets pain in his stomach. Also, he feels not confident cause he didn’t get the quirk naturally, which holds him back even more. He don’t think fast in battle, so even with this flashy quirk, he’s not so effective.

Hitoshi Shinso – Brainwashing

Shinso’s quirk lets him control someone’s body and mind just if they talk back to him. Sounds crazy powerful, right? But it’s not that simple. He got worries that people see his power as villain-like, so he not always confident in using it. Also, he can only use the quirk when someone replies to him, which don’t always happen. So even though it’s strong, it’s hard for him to make full use of it.

Not-So-Great Quirks, But Solid Users

Then there’s people who didn’t get lucky with the best quirks, but they worked super hard and turned their quirks into big strengths.

Shota Aizawa – Erasure

Aizawa, also called Eraser Head, can erase quirks just by looking at someone. But if he blinks, the effect stops. So that’s a big flaw. But he trains his body a lot, and uses a scarf-like weapon to trap people when their quirk is erased. He fights smart and never wastes a move. That’s why he’s so dangerous even with a quirk that got limits.

Tenya Iida – Engine

Tenya got engines in his legs. That makes him run really fast and hit harder with his legs. But turning or stopping fast is hard for him, and sometimes he overheats. Still, he worked on it and improved his stamina and technique. He even learned new moves like Recipro Turbo, which helps with the overheating. Now he can run fast and still keep control.

Mirio Togata – Permeation

Mirio’s quirk lets him go through walls and floors. Sounds cool, but while using it, he can’t see or feel anything. It’s hard to control, and risky too. But he trained hard every day, learning how to move his body perfectly so he don’t get stuck somewhere. He also got strong physically, so now he can fight while dodging everything. He made a confusing quirk into something amazing.

Katsuki Bakugo – Explosion

Bakugo, known as Dynamight, got the ability to make explosions from his sweat. He uses that to fly around or fight. But this power uses a lot of energy and needs sweat to even work. That’s tricky. He trained himself to shoot his blasts exactly where he wants. He also wears gear that saves his sweat and helps him fire blasts without waiting to sweat more. His suit even protects his arms from too much damage. That’s why he’s so strong now.

In My Hero Academia, quirks are very important. They are the first thing people notice. But what truly matters is the person behind the quirk. Some people let good quirks go to waste, while others work harder and turn something simple into something powerful. This mix of effort, mindset, and training shows that being a hero isn't only about powers—it’s about how you use what you have.

Even with lots of other characters like these in the series, these ones remind us that real strength isn’t just in the ability, but in the will to grow past your limits.
