Ubisoft is reportedly making a new battle royale: Pathfinder

Tom Henderson reveals insider information on this new and unique upcoming battle royale from Ubsioft. Read on to know everything about it.

Tom Henderson, who is known for being an industry insider has revealed that Ubisoft is developing a new third person IP called Pathfinder. The information comes with a report published on Exputer by Henderson, on 5th April. He says that it is possible that “Pathfinder” is just a codename for the project. He received the news, along with images and videos of the game from three sources who have not been named.  According to him, they “show a similar graphical design” to Hyper-Scape, another Ubisoft game which is soon-to-be shut down. Here’s everything you need to know about this new IP from Ubisoft.

What will Pathfinder be like?

According to the information put out by Henderson, Pathfinder has a unique take on the genre of Battle Royale. The game will involve teams of four players in what Henderson presumes is a PvPvE game. However, the main goal is to find the path towards the centre of the map. Once there, players will face the main AI boss.

Hurdles include two walls with a series of gates around them that need to be breached. However, with every game, the position of the breachable gate will change, encouraging players to take different paths every time.  Additionally, players will also be facing AI enemies throughout the game. Defeating them will affect player levels, eventually making them stronger and they climb up the ranks.

In order to get to the middle of the map, players will need to fight AI enemies to level up and get stronger, with AI getting noticeably more difficult the further toward the middle of the map you get. Given that it is a PvPvE game, players will be pitted against other teams of four as well.

Other features that Henderson writes about is the Central Hub, which “is similar to the Destiny Tower”. Here, players can use firing ranges that will be available, and join event areas, race with vehicles to test them, shop and do much more. He also adds that players will be called “Heroes” and they’ll each have unique abilities and powers- “although those abilities can not yet be determined as the game is in early development”.

Is the new IP going to be an improved version of Hyper-Scape?

Hyper-Scape is a free-to-play FPS battle-royale developed by Ubisoft. However, it is only a few days from getting its servers shut down. Ubisoft said in a statement published on 27th January- “We have made the difficult decision to end development of Hyper Scape and shut the game down as of April 28th. We set out to create a vertical, close-quarters, and fast-paced shooter experience and we are extremely grateful to our community for joining us on our journey. We will be taking key learnings from this game into future products.” It is possible that Ubisoft was referring to “Pathfinder” when it mentioned “future products”, as even Henderson points out the similarity in the graphics.

In other news, Ubisoft has announced that it will stop content support for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. It has also announced a mobile game version of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege.
