Watch Dogs: Legion online multiplayer mode is coming on March 9; everything we know

Video game developer Ubisoft has just announced details around the online multiplayer mode for one of its AAA titles from 2020, Watch Dogs: Legion. As part of the announcement, the company has finally shared the launch date for the new mode. This online multiplayer mode will launch on March 9 as a standalone segment of the game. Ubisoft also outlined the differences between the regular, story version of Watch Dogs: Legion and the upcoming online mode. Before we talk about the differences, it is worth highlighting the similarities between the story mode and the online mode. The similarities include the near-future setting in London with a lot of hacking. So, the game will look identical with differences in the gameplay. Now, let’s focus on all the ways this mode is different from the story mode. First up, players will need to start fresh in this mode regardless of their achievements in the story mode. This is to ensure that everyone starts on an equal footing regardless of the time spent in the story mode. Players will start in a new branch of London and need to rebuild DeadSec by recruiting new team members.

The multiplayer mode of the game uses “Influence points” to make recruitment easy. Players can use these points to upgrade their gadgets, weapons, and hacks. One can also use these points to recruit in-game characters directly on the spot without carrying out whole missions. Players can collect these influence points by ranking up their character through the different Watch Dogs: Legion seasons. One can also rank up by completing daily and weekly challenges or solo assignments on the map.

Co-op modes: the real multi-player element

Now, the highlight of the online mode is the new co-op mode where a group of anywhere between 2 or 4 can team-up to complete missions. Players need to carry out tasks like taking out the enemy or coordinate hacks to level up their faction of DeadSec. These will lead the players and their group to Tactical Ops, five-stage challenges that are more intense than anything else in the mode. Teams need a great level of communication, team-work, and coordination to complete these modes. One mission can also require the team to be in two places at the same time to pull off a simultaneous hack. If anyone player in the team is down, the entire team needs to restart.

The Online mode of Watch Dogs: Legion also includes modes like the Spiderbot Arena. Here, one can play against other players for a Spiderbot arena match. It is a free-for-all arena deathmatch. Players need to get in mystery boxes spread in the arena to gain weapons like tracking missiles, shotguns, lasers, and more. This mode will also come with a kill-streak bonus, shield, supercharged weapons, and more to keep the six-minute rounds interesting.
