AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT announced in India for Rs. 46,008; Resident Evil Village to get FidelityFX support, and more

AMD noted that both first-party cards and Add-In-Board (AIB) cards from its partners will go on sale at the same time. Here is everything we know about the new AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT GPU.

Semiconductor giant AMD has just announced its Radeon RX 6700 XT GPU on the global stage. This RDNA 2-powered card comes months after the company launched its RX 6800, RX 6800 XT, and RX 6900 XT. Looking back, the company announced these cards towards the end of October and brought them to India in November. As per the announcement, the Radeon RX 6700 XT GPU will go on sale on March 18 across the globe.

AMD noted that both first-party cards and Add-In-Board (AIB) cards from its partners will go on sale at the same time. It also shared the GPU price in India along with announcements around its FidelityFX, and Smart Access Memory technologies. Here is everything we know about the new AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT GPU including specifications, and more.

AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT announced; details

According to the announcement, AMD is aiming to provide the best gaming experience possible at 1440p with 6700 XT. Specifications and pricing-wise, the company plans to take on the RTX 3060 Ti with this card. In fact, the GPU sits between the Nvidia RTX 3070 and 3060 Ti when it comes to pricing. The company also claimed that it is “on track to have significantly more GPUs available for sale at launch”. According to a report from The Verge, AMD will start selling RX 6000 series GPUs and Ryzen 5000 Series CPUs on its website every week. This will allow AMD to sell products at retail prices without the potential for price gouging on account of the shortage.

The company has priced RX 6700 XT at $479 while the India pricing is Rs 38,990 without GST. 18 percent GST will push the price up to Rs 46,008. The international price for the card is $100 than the $579 price for the Radeon RX 6800. AMD also acknowledged the shortage and price gouging stated, “We know it’s crazy out there, we’re doing everything we can.”

As per the announcement, the company claims that players can get up to 212fps in Overwatch, 360fps in Rainbow Six Siege, and 272fps in League of Legends. Looking at the benchmarks AMD provided, players can get 118fps in Hitman 3 with max settings at 1440p. Maintaining the settings, one could get 82fps in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, 87fps in Borderlands 3, and 71fps in Cyberpunk 2077. It is worth noting that the company managed these numbers with the help of its AMD Smart Access Memory technology. Buyers can also expect ray tracing with RX 6700 XT.

Specifications of the RX 6700 XT

Looking at the specifications, the RX 6700 XT features 12GB GDDR6 video memory along with 40 compute units. For some context, the RX 6800 comes with 60 compute units and RX 6800 XT features 80 compute units. This card also requires two power connectors including one 8-pin connector and one 6-pin connector. AMD has also set the game clock for the card at 2,424MHz, slightly higher than other 6000 series cards. Other features include a 192-bit memory bus, 96MB Infinity cache, and a rated TDP of 230W. The AMD design for the card features a two fan design while most AIB cards feature a three fan design.

Availability, updates on FidelityFX and Smart Access Memory

Coming back to the availability, considering the current situation, this is the most important aspect for the new GPU. AMD stated that the card will be available on AMD.com, its AIB partners, and about 40 system builders. Beyond this, unlike Nvidia, AMD has no plans to reduce the crypto mining efficiency of the card to take on the miners. The company also outlined that it is rolling out Smart Access Memory (SAM) support to its Ryzen 3000 series desktop processors. This feature first made its way to the market as a Ryzen 5000 series exclusive.

For some additional context, this technology is based on the PCIe graphics feature called Resizable BAR. Here the CPU can access the onboard memory available on a GPU for better gaming performance. Users need to have an AMD Ryzen 5000 (and now Ryzen 3000) series CPU along with an AMD Radeon RX 6000 series GPU to get SAM. It is worth noting that Nvidia is also working on bringing this feature to its GPUs. Its latest GPU in the market, the GeForce RTX 3060 GPU comes with Resizable BAR support out of the box.

Nvidia is currently aiming to bring this support to the newer RTX 3000 series GPUs along with both AMD and Intel CPUs. Coming back to AMD, the company noted that Ryzen 3000 series desktop CPU users should start checking for a Motherboard BIOS update based on AGESA 1.2.0.1. The company is promising “up to 16 percent more performance” with SAM.

Reaching the end, it is worth noting that AMD showcased its FidelityFX support on the upcoming AAA video game Resident Evil Village. It has worked with Capcom to bring Ray Tracing on PC along with variable-rate shading, super-resolution, and more. This also means that Xbox Series X and PS5 users can also look forward to Ray Tracing on consoles.
